My brain is clearer, my thinking is better.

I'm more grounded.

I'm not stressing about things the way I usually do.

I'm reacting to things differently.

After a lifetime of putting everyone else first, I'm thinking about me.

"I couldn't get through a day at work without tears when I started with Sara: I felt like I was drowning and life felt like a chore.

Within weeks, everything changed. Now:

I sleep better.

I have loads of energy.

I don't feel menopausal anymore.

That feeling of panic I used to live with has gone. Completely."

After working with Sara, I now understand how to balance my blood sugar, my sugar cravings are gone, I have lost 7kg and feel confident that I have the tools to reach my target weight and maintain it!

Despite having a stressful and demanding job I rarely now feel the same panic and stress and on the odd occasion that does happen I know exactly what to do to manage it and keep myself in a calm state.

You know your brain.

Which is why forgetting the word you use every day bothers you.

So does waking at 3am.

Running out of energy halfway through the afternoon.

And quietly needing more effort to do things that used to feel easy.

You’re still functioning.

You just know this isn’t how you function.

“I have more energy, a clearer head and lost weight to boot.”
Mhairi Morris

You’re already trying to help yourself.

You eat well. You exercise. You’ve probably bought the supplements.

The problem isn’t a lack of effort.

It’s that most perimenopause advice gives every woman the same collection of things to do.

I’m much more interested in understanding what your symptoms are telling us.

Perimenopause changes the metabolic environment your whole body is operating in.

We hear an awful lot about oestrogen and progesterone.

They matter.

But changing hormones also change the way your body handles things like insulin, blood sugar, stress, inflammation, sleep, appetite and fat storage.

Which is why perimenopause can show up in places that don't seem remotely hormonal.

Your brain.

Your gut.

Your sleep.

Your mood.

Your waistline.

Your energy.

The hormonal shift is happening. But we have far more influence over how your body responds to it than most women realise.

And that is where my work begins.

The loudest symptom isn't always where I look first.

You might come to me because your brain feels foggy.

But I'll be interested in what happens to your energy after lunch. How you're sleeping. Whether your appetite has changed.

After more than 20 years as a naturopath, I've learned that the detail a woman almost forgets to mention can be the clue that changes how we approach everything else.

That's why I look at the whole picture.

You don't need to do everything. You need to know what matters for your body.

“After working with Sara, I now understand how to balance my blood sugar, my sugar cravings are gone, I have lost 7kg... I don’t wake up feeling worse than when I went to bed anymore, but instead feel like I have had a proper rest.”
Shelly Ford

The Nourish Club Effect

1

Understand

The confusion starts to lift.

You begin to recognise what your body is telling you.

And instead of opening another ten browser tabs looking for answers, you know where to start.

2

Influence

You start making changes that fit your life.

You know what to eat to support your energy. How to respond when sleep goes off track. What helps you feel better in your body.

And there's something rather wonderful about realising you can make a difference to how you feel.

3

Get on with your life

You're no longer second-guessing every little change in your body.

You recognise when something needs attention, and you have the knowledge and tools to respond.

Looking after yourself becomes something you know how to do, rather than another problem you have to solve.

Sara Southgate, naturopath and perimenopause nutritionist, smiling while sitting cross-legged in a denim outfit against a neutral background.

Hi, I'm Sara

I’ve been a naturopath since 2003.

And after more than two decades listening to women describe their bodies, I’ve learned that perimenopause affects far more than their sleep, weight or energy.

It can change how confident they feel, how much they trust their own body and what they believe they have the capacity to do.

That's why I pay attention to the woman as well as her symptoms.

Because feeling better matters. And so does feeling like yourself again.

Your ambition hasn't changed. But something else has.

You’ve spent years being able to rely on yourself.

Your brain remembers.

Your determination gets you through.

You handle pressure.

You work things out.

You get on with it.

So when those things become less dependable, it lands differently.

You’re wondering whether your body can still keep up.

Your body and brain need different support now.

“Sara is helping me to look after myself both physically and mentally... I have already noticed my productivity levels have gone up.”
Caroline Waddams

Imagine thinking about your life more than your perimenopause.

Walking into the meeting without wondering whether the word will come.

Getting to the end of the day with something left.

Knowing what your body needs without disappearing down another Google rabbit hole.

That's what feeling better is for.

P.S. I know what it feels like when your body changes the plan.

At 21, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome took me from dreaming about an international business career to being housebound.

Natural medicine helped me find my way back and eventually became my career.

More than 20 years into that career, perimenopause challenged my own body again during an extraordinarily difficult period of illness, surgery and PTSD.

It reinforced something I now want every woman I work with to know:

Your changing hormones matter. They don't leave you powerless.

There is an enormous amount we can influence in the metabolic environment around them.

And when you know how to do that, you can get back to the much more interesting business of living your life.
