I’m not too concerned about Corona Virus in it’s present form.
Although I must confess I have (calmly) panic-bought dog food, bird food, human food and gin.
For most, it’s a mild illness.
However, I can catastrophise with the best of them and a very small voice in the back of my head is listening in fear to the constant stream of bad news.
I always feel better for taking action, and this is my area of expertise: I’ve worked with people to improve their health and immunity since 2003.
Plus, I’m a rubbish invalid and I need to avoid having to self-isolate so I can look after my patients and clients who need me.
Our Western orthodox medical system is very concerned with killing pathogens. We have some incredibly effective medications for doing that.
However, it is not able to improve the health of the body, so your body can keep itself healthy.
That is what naturopathic medicine excels at.
This is what I’ve been doing for people for the last 16 years.

Avoid things that suppress immune function.
Vitamin C – The Master Immune System Nutrient
Physicians have demonstrated the powerful anti-viral effects of vitamin C since the late 1940s. The director of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service said in January 2020 that “the coronavirus pandemic can be slowed or stopped with the immediate use of high dose vitamin C.”
A virologist on The Today Programme recently confirmed that Vitamin C is an effective anti-viral, then said you shouldn’t take it, because excess is excreted in the urine, which makes for “expensive wee”. She seemed to forget she’d said it worked in the same sentence!
Adult Dose: 3g daily, in divided doses
Vitamin D plays a central role in the immune system, stimulate the bodies’ own anti-viral response and levels take a while to build up, unlike Vitamin C.
Adult dose: 1,000 – 5,000 iu daily
Zinc is not only critical for the optimal function of your immune cells, but it interrupts the viral life-cycle, stopping the virus entering the host and stopping it replicating.
Adult dose: 15mg daily
Garlic, onions, ginger, chilli, oregano, sage, basil, lemon balm and rosemary all contain anti-viral properties, as do Reishi and Shitake Mushrooms.
All are available in supermarkets – eat them frequently, and fresh. The best way to do this is to make a big batch of fresh curry paste (try Jaime Oliver’s recipes, they store well in a jam jar under olive oil) or a fresh pesto. Anything ready-made has had the good stuff mostly pasteurised out of it, so to benefit your health and immune system, it’s got to be fresh, and eaten regularly.
Fresh Ginger Tea
Grate 2-5cm fresh, unpeeled ginger root into a teapot or large cafetiere. Cover and leave to infuse until drinkable temperature, about 15 minutes. Drink freely – that means as much as you can.
Ginger, and the Gingerol is contains is anti-inflammatory, full of antioxidants that support your immune system and may be active against some respiratory viruses.
Keep it up. It boosts the immune system. If you go to the gym, use the handgel and don’t touch your face while you’re exercising (see below).
Lack of sleep
All suppress the immune system.
Sugar suppresses the immune system for between 5-10 hours after you eat it.
So quit the boozy, late cake nights if you’re worried.
STOP TOUCHING YOUR FACE!!!
Corona virus is transmitted through respiratory droplets – that’s coughs & sneezes, or just plain talking, either directly from mouth to mouth, or through someone touching contaminated objects, then touching their face.
You’re unlikely to be aware just how often you touch your face, but do be aware that if you pick up the virus on your hand, it will transfer readily to your nose/ mouth/ eyes when you do so. Once you’re aware of it, it will become easier to stop.
Use handgels regularly when you’re out and about.
Use Dettol in spray or wipes at home and work. While we have no evidence Dettol will kill Covid-19, Dettol claims it kills H1N1, of SARS infamy, so it’s worth using on mobile phones, keyboards, car keys, light switches, door handles, fridge handles, taps etc for the duration (but not once this virus has passed – we want your immune system to get stronger by encountering normal germs).
Wash your hands. Frequently. For 1 minute. Time it.
Think of your car and your home as your ‘safe zone’ so you don’t bring any potential viruses in. Clean your hands before you go in your door.
Hand-gel is effective after 15 seconds of rubbing – the alcohol must be at least 60%, and you’ll need a good moisturiser, as it’s SUPER drying.
